The latest trends in retail: How AI and avatars are changing the shopping experience.

Artificial intelligence and virtual avatars are among the innovative technologies that are noticeably changing the shopping experience. In our overview, we show you which trends are currently emerging and which examples already exist in practice.

Note in advance: In this article, we use the terms artificial intelligence (AI) and artificial intelligence (AI) interchangeably - they refer to the same thing.

The digital transformation in retail is progressing steadily. Artificial intelligence and virtual avatars in particular are among the innovative technologies that are noticeably changing the shopping experience. They not only enable more personalization, but also new types of interaction between customers and brands. This overview shows which trends are currently emerging and which examples already exist in practice.

1. AI-driven personalization in the shopping experience

Artificial intelligence helps to tailor the shopping experience to the individual needs of customers. It plays a special role in digital signage: here, systems use sensors and cameras to analyze demographic characteristics such as age or gender - and adapt the displayed content in real time.

The first brands are using this technology to present personalized product recommendations directly in-store, for example. This not only increases the relevance of the content, but also customer satisfaction - and ultimately promotes the purchase decision.

2. avatars as digital sales consultants

Virtual avatars are already taking on customer service tasks in many use cases. They guide customers digitally through the store, answer questions and make recommendations.

Such digital assistants respond in real time, conduct dialog-based conversations and thus create an interactive experience - regardless of whether employees are available or not. Individual retail chains such as REWE are already experimenting with these solutions.

3. voice-controlled systems & conversational AI

Voice assistants such as Alexa or Google Assistant are no longer just used at home - retailers are also benefiting from voice-controlled services. Conversational AI creates a natural dialog between humans and machines: customers can ask questions, call up information or even place orders - simply by entering their voice.

4. digital mirrors and interactive changing rooms

Intelligent mirrors and digital changing rooms combine AI with interactive displays: customers can try on clothes virtually, receive size recommendations or even styling tips. Companies such as Zara and Uniqlo are already testing corresponding solutions to combine stationary shopping with digital services.

5. automated checkouts & self-checkout

Things are also changing when it comes to payment. Systems such as those in the Amazon Go stores make shopping possible without the traditional checkout process: products are recorded via an app and the amount is automatically debited from the stored payment method - without any queuing.

The advantages at a glance:

The technologies mentioned bring with them various potentials - both for companies and for customers.

1. individual experience

Content and offers can be personalized.

2. direct interaction

Digital assistants are available to answer questions at any time.

3. efficiency

Automation speeds up processes and saves resources.

4. customer satisfaction

The shopping experience will be more convenient, modern and interactive.

5. accessibility

AI-supported systems are available around the clock - regardless of opening hours.

Conclusion: A look into the future of retail

Technologies such as AI and virtual avatars are changing the retail industry for good. While some solutions are already in use, others are still in the testing phase - but one thing is clear: digitalization is opening up new ways to make the shopping experience more efficient, personal and interactive.

The first step towards real energy management is to know where the energy flows to in the building, how much it consumes and how much it produces. The Loxone energy flow monitor plays a central role here. All data can be displayed in real time in an appealing visualization in the Loxone app. This information provides a clear overview of the building's current energy status and allows targeted optimization measures to be taken.

Rate

By evaluating consumers, it is possible to find ways of reducing the base load, for example by automatically switching off consumers that are not needed. Potential energy leaks are also uncovered. Frequent energy wasters are, for example, air conditioning systems or ventilation systems that run at high levels even when no one is in the building. Reducing the base load leads to immediate cost savings. For example, the permanent consumption of one watt costs around €3 per year. This may sound small, but it quickly adds up in a household or business with numerous appliances. In addition, reducing the base load helps to reduce the carbon footprint and extends the life of the appliances.

Act

With Loxone's unique software , energy consumption can be shifted to times when energy is cheaper or even free - especially if solar energy is available.
